Department of Radiology

The Department of Radiology was established in the year 1962. Dr. O. P. Trehan was the first head of the department. M.D. Radiology and DMRE courses were initiated in the same year. Dr. D. N. Srivastava and Dr. Archana Gupta, who passed M.D. Radiology are now elevated to the post of Professor in Radio diagnosis at the prestigious A.I.I.M.S., New Delhi, and S.G.P.G.I. of Medical Sciences, Lucknow respectively. Dr. S. Mohan who passed M.D. Radio diagnosis from this department has recently been appointed as Assistant Professor at Philadelphia University, U.S.A.
M.C.I by its letter No.MCI-23(1)/80-Med./3013 dated 19th May,1980 recommended the bifurcation of the department of Radiology into Radio diagnosis and Radiotherapy. On 25th April, 2003 in Chikitsa Sankay Parishad meeting of University of Allahabad this recommendation was accepted by the University of Allahabad Calendar 1987-88, page No.125 as per M.C.I. Act. The Department of Radiotherapy came into existence in year 1987. Dr. G. R. Agrawal was the first head of department of Radiotherapy as well as Radio diagnosis. M.D. Radio diagnosis and D.M.R.D. courses in department of Radio diagnosis and M.D. Radiotherapy courses are running from that time and for recognition of both courses, M.C.I. inspection has taken place recently. With affiliation to C.S.M.M.U., now the courses are being run by this University and those who are admitted to these courses get opportunity to have their practical training at KGMU, Lucknow also.
