National Service Scheme (N.S.S.)

The National Service Scheme for Medical students has a huge potential mainly as a source of creating awareness among the Medical students regarding various issues of importance in the community and also for sensitizing them to the needs of the community especially the underprivileged and deprived ones.

  Dr (Mrs) S. Dwivedi
Officer In-charge NSS

Through NSS the students of this institution have been associated with many community based activities and have created a lot of awareness amongst the population of the slum areas.

They visit the slum areas regularly and take part in medical checkups and in health education activities in the community regarding various issues of importance for the health of the community and family. They have taken part cheerfully in many community based activities such as Pulse Polio and have spent some of their Sundays administering Polio drops in various slum areas of the city.

They regularly take part in the World Health day celebrations, World AIDS day celebrations, poster competitions, rallies on issues of social importance. The skits and Nukkad nataks on various preventable diseases and social evils like dowry, sex discrimination, prepared by our students are outstanding and draw huge crowds wherever they have been organized. Their performance during Magh Mela at the Sangam have been applauded by the community and other NSS units alike. They are also on the forefront when it comes to blood donation and are ever willing to help the poor and needy.

The medical students have a lot of potential and through such activities we can channelize their energies constructively. By sensitizing them to social service we can expect great contributions for the society and a sense of empathy with the sick and needy. Dr (Mrs) S. Dwivedi, Professor and Head, Department of Community Medicine, MLN Medical College, Allahabad is the officer In-charge of the NSS unity and it is under her guidance that all the above activities are taking place.
