The department was established in 1969, Dr. V. B. Sahai was the first Head of the department and the first post graduate degree was awarded to the present Head of the department, Dr. U. S. Sinha in the year 1978. Since 1986, Dr. U. S. Sinha has been heading the department. during his head ship, the post graduate degree of the department was recognized by MCI retrospectively. The department is involved in giving expert opinion to Hon’ble High Court of Allahabad, U. P. Police zone Allahabad and CBCID crime branch. It is also involved in training of police officers and personnels of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Police training academy.
