The Cardiology department was established in 1978. Dr. R. K. Agarwal, renowned cardiologist, was the head of Department. Under his able guidance the department flourished remarkably. His team comprising of Dr. P. C. Saxena and Dr D. K. Agarwal was a boon to the citizens of Allahabad. Dr R.K.  Agarwal served the department efficiently till his retirement on 31.05.1995. Thereafter Dr P.C. Saxena took over as head of the department of Cardiology. Later he was selected as principal and worked as principal and Dean Faculty of Medicine from 10.05.2005 to 28.02.2010. After retirement he re- joined the department as professor on contract basis.
