In 1962, a Paediatric OPD was established at S.R.N. Hospital, Allahabad and Dr. B.R. Jha the famous paediatrician of Allahabad was appointed as Consultant Paediatrician. Thereafter Dr. V. K. Agarwal joined the department as lecturer he started the care of paediatric patients with only a few beds.

 Later on in 1963 the foundation stone of the present Children hospital was laid by our first Prime minister Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru and in 1968 the department of Paediatrics was shifted to 1, Church Lane. Professor V.K. Agarwal, the founder head of the department; headed the hospital with very limited staff of one peon and one nurse only.

In 1981 a separate ward incorporating 50 beds was added and this setup was inaugurated by the then Chief minister of U.P. Sri V.P. Singh. Later on a well equipped Neonatal and Pediatrics intensive care unit with 20 beds came into existence. Presently the hospital is also having a fully A.C. lecture theatre with modern audio visual aids. it has its own electricity & water supply with power back up, an x-ray, pathology, paediatric surgery and physiotherapy unit are also present. Dr. V. K. Agarwal with his vision and the help of additional faculty and staff paved the way for functioning of the 100 bedded hospital. Today this hospital serves as a tertiary care centre for the surrounding districts as well as the nearby states of Madhya Pradesh and Bihar. Presently it is headed by Professor P.C. Mishra.
